Veteran actor Neetu Kapoor says though she has immersed herself in work after her husband Rishi Kapoor’s demise, she still doesn’t have the “confidence” to attend public events without him.

Neetu, who met Rishi Kapoor at the age of 15, married the actor in 1980 and quit films after featuring in hits like “Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Deewaar, Khel Khel Mein and Kabhi Kabhie.”

She returned to movies in the late 2000s with cameos in films like “Love Aaj Kal” (2009) and “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” (2012) as well as full-fledged roles in “Do Dooni Chaar” (2010) and “Besharam” (2013). All four films featured Rishi Kapoor, who passed away in April 2020 after a battle with leukemia.

Her latest film “Jugjugg Jeeyo”, for which she started shooting last year, was the first time in decades that the 63-year-old actor shot without her husband.

“The first day I went on set, I also posted a picture that this was the first time I was stepping outside the house without him. I’m sure he was blessing me, making things easy for me. But to be honest, it was difficult to not act with him. It was tough,” Neetu told PTI.

Apart from the Karan Johar production, the veteran actor also started filming for a dance reality show as a judge, a commitment that has kept her busy ever since.

As an actor, Neetu said, she has gained the confidence to face the camera without her late husband but hasn’t yet found the strength to step out in public alone.

“Even today, when I’m called for a function, I can’t go. I can go for a shoot, but I can’t go to a film function without him. Recently, I was invited to a big event, where they wanted to give me an award but I cannot go without him. I feel awkward going alone. I still don’t have that confidence.

“I need my son or my husband with me. Maybe it’ll take me time to get used to that part. As an actor, I can go and work because there’s my team, they’re with me and so I feel okay. But not otherwise, not now,” she added.

Directed by Raj Mehta, “Jugjugg Jeeyo” will feature Neetu Kapoor in a full-fledged role nine years after her last outing “Besharam”, which co-starred Rishi Kapoor and their son Ranbir Kapoor.

The comedy-drama also stars Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Manish Paul.

Neetu Kapoor said working on the film was “comforting” and helped her cope with the grief.

“Karan was over (my house) for dinner after my husband had passed away. Ranbir said I should start working again, but I shrugged off the idea. Karan heard it and said he has a nice script and I should at least hear it. I half-heartedly said yes.

“When I heard the narration later, I was amazed. It was funny, nice and dramatic. Although I didn’t have the confidence then as I was low, I said I’ll do the film. I knew this would help me, comfort me,” she added.

“Jugjugg Jeeyo” is scheduled to release theatrically on June 24.

Lata Mangeshkar was not only a legendary singer but she also believed in giving back to society. she used to do a lot of charity work. Usha Tai adds more to this as she says, “Lata di has done a lot of charity work. That too during the time when she was not working much.. She has built Asia’s biggest and the most affordable hospital in Pune. It was her dream to start an old age home for the veteran musicians in Bollywood.”

This 1994 animated classic depicts with great emotional depth how even after his death, the legacy of the formidable Mufasa continued to inspire his cub Simba. Though initially, overwhelmed by grief, Simba flees into exile but soon the support of his friend Nala, and his shaman Rafiki, help him to take his rightful place in the circle of life. He not only avenges his father’s murder but also brings back peace to a polarized animal kingdom. The lessons taught by Mufasa are relevant not just for Simba but also for the audience as they remind us to nurture our relationships, have a broader vision of life, and take well-measured decisions that benefit everyone. Billy Elliot: The Musical

This Zee Theatre offering revolves around Billy Elliot, a young boy growing up in Everington, a fictional mining town in County Durham, England. Billy lives with his widowed coal miner father Jackie, older brother Tony and maternal grandmother. In this rather bleak and ordinary existence, where his father expects him to learn boxing, Billy stumbles upon ballet dancing and falls in love with it. Jackie is a conventional, stern father who thinks that Billy’s passion for dancing will make people think that he is gay. Billy however continues to learn ballet and his unwavering faith in his dream finally wins not just the approval of his father but the support of his town. The musical, while depicting how a generation gap can make it hard for a father and son to communicate, also shows that finally, love can bridge any distance. The moment when Billy performs the lead in ‘Swan Lake’ while his father and brother watch in wonder, evokes loud cheers from the audience every single time. ‘Billy Elliot : The Musical is directed by Stephen Daldry and Brett Sullivan and stars Elliot Hanna, Ruthie Henshall and Deka Walmsley. The Sound of Music

At the heart of this 1965 classic movie, is a simple story of joyful parenting where a stern father learns that more than discipline, his children need his time and attention. Embittered by the loss of his wife, Captain Georg von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) treats his children like military cadets and reprimands them if they break his impossible to follow rules. He spends little or no time with them. King Richard

This 2021 biographical sports drama film stars Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams.  Williams became a highly controversial figure in the tennis circuit when Venus and Serena were growing up because he pushed them sometimes too hard to excel and also controlled their careers unapologetically. Along with his wife Brandy, he raised a family of three step-daughters, and Venus and Serena like a man on a mission. From organizing the routines of his daughters to making sure they never lost sight of their goals, he often went too far but is today recognized as the force behind their success stories. He taught his girls that success is not incidental but has to be willed into existence and that is why he made a plan for them even before they were born. He coached them daily while holding two jobs and when the time came, found the coaches who would polish their raw talent to a sparkle. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
